January 8 - 11: This week the students created the foundations for the class. This included what they expect from themselves and one another. They also started to analyze the American Dream and how it applies to them.
January 14 - 18: This week the students started to analyze how the American Dream and their concept of success impacts their futures and avenue to that future. They also started looking at their intended occupation.
Week of January 21 - 25: This week the students researched their intended professions as well as post high school plans. They then had to reflect on what they were doing to ensure their success in their endeavors. They were also shown the realities of homeownership, which many saw as a sign of success, and having their own mode of private transportation. It was an eye opening week!
Week of January 28 - February 1: This week the students were exposed to more reality as they tried to find a home and mode of transportation they could afford based on the starting salary of their intended profession. They also were exposed to the ins and outs of credit cards.
Week of February 4 - 15: The kids have been so busy trying to deal with real life! They learned about banking, loans, identity theft, investing and taxes! Taxes, I feel, are their biggest challenge as they need to remember to read line by line as well as look at the correct tax table for their tax information! However, they are resilient and have been trudging through it together! I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend!
February 18 - 22: This week has been a very short week in terms of class time, however, that doesn't mean the kids haven't been busy! They took a tax return quiz, the results are still pending, however sadly , so far they don't look very promising. They also started a culminating project called, "On my own".
